The New York Yankees and utility player Wilson Betemit have agreed on a one year contract for the 2008 season.  Reports are saying that the contract will be worth a little over $1 million dollars.

Pretty good signing for the Yankees and a really cheap price.  Betemit was once the next great player for the Atlanta Braves but that didn’t turn out.  He will be a solid player in New York in my opinion.

Once again, Hank Steinbrenner has pulled his offer off the table as the Yankees tried to trade for Johan Santana of the Minnesota Twins.  It has been believed that the Yankees offer was starting pitcher Philip Hughes, outfielder Melky Cabrera, and then one or two other minor league players.

At this time, I’m not aware of the other players that the Twins were wanting in the deal.  Steinbrenner mentioned that the Yankees are not desperate to make a move, so they aren’t going to include players in a deal that they really don’t want too.

So now the question is this?  Do the Yankees start looking at Joe Blanton?  Blanton has yet to be traded, and could really help out the Yankees rotation in 2008.
