The New York Yankees set a franchise record for runs in the first inning, scoring 12 times against Baltimore in the second game of a day-night doubleheader Saturday. Nick Swisher homered and drove in three, following up his big game in the opener. Robinson Cano had a pair of RBI singles and the Yankees sent 16 batters to the plate in an offensive outburst that lasted 40 minutes.

Hideki Irabu’s famous teammates on the New York Yankees remembered him Friday as a talented pitcher who was fun to be around. The club held a moment of silence for Irabu at Yankee Stadium before Friday night’s game against Baltimore, one day after news of his death spread. A picture of Irabu tipping his cap to the crowd was shown on the big video board in center field.

Los Angeles rookie Mark Trumbo homered and drove in a career-high five runs to lead the Angels over the Detroit Tigers 12-7 in the American League on Thursday. Trumbo hit a two-run homer in the Angels’ three-run second. He tripled in the fourth and doubled in the seventh.
