CC Sabathia has picked up the Yankees several times this season with dominant performances on the mound. This time, New York's bruising lineup did most of the work. Sabathia became the majors' first 18-game winner, Marcus Thames hit two of New York's four homers and the Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 12-9 on Saturday night.

First baseman Mark Teixeira left the New York Yankees' game against the Chicago White Sox after two innings Saturday because of a bruised right thumb. Teixeira fielded Gordon Beckham's routine grounder and slowly stepped on first base for the final out of the second. Curtis Granderson batted for Teixeira in the top of the third.

David Paterson could face a criminal charge for what a special counsel called inaccurate and misleading testimony on tickets he secured last year from the New York Yankees for the opening game of the World Series. The state's former chief judge, acting as the special counsel, has asked a district attorney to consider a perjury investigation.
