Baltimore: RH closer Jim Johnson, hospitalized since Tuesday due to flu-like symptoms and a bacterial infection, hopes to go home today. Manager Buck Showalter said Johnson was still trying to keep down food. … RHP Joel Pineiro, who signed a minor league deal with the Orioles on April 11, pitched a five-inning simulated game, according to MASNsports.com. The Web site reported that Pineiro next will join Class AAA Norfolk. Pineiro, 33, has pitched in parts of 12 big-league seasons. He went 7-7 with a 5.13 ERA in 27 games (24 starts) last year with the Angels.

The team was awaiting reports to determine if the issue was a virus or food poisoning, according to MASNsports.com. … 2B Robert Andino was due to leave the club after Tuesday’s game to return to Miami for the birth of his third child. Andino will be placed on paternity leave, and the Orioles will add a fill-in from the minors. The team might opt to add an outfielder depending on the status of LF Nolan Reimold’s stiff neck. Reimold was out of the starting lineup, and he is day-to-day.

Maybe I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m pretty confident when I say that the 2012 Chicago Cubs will never have to worry about accusations of steroid usage amongst the players on their roster. The Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Sunday, April 22nd and left Comerica Park with a series win. The Tigers are a really good team and while I had hoped for a sweep I realistically thought that Texas would leave with a series split at best. The Rangers offense tends to go cold in Detroit yet they scored 20 runs in the first two games. That, however, was followed by just five runs in the last two. Not only does the massive dimensions of Comerica Park factor into Texas’ offensive woes there is also the Tigers’ starting pitchers, and one Justin Verlander.
