The New York Yankees scored four runs in the sixth inning as they went onto beat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 5-2.  The Yankees didn’t have their first hit until the sixth inning, but from there on out it was all Yankees in the victory.

Hideki Matsui led the Yankees with two RBI’s as he went 1-4 on the night.  Alex Rodriguez, Jason Giambi, and Morgan Ensberg also all had one RBI each.

Mike Mussina pitched five innings to pick up his third win of the season.  Mussina gave up seven hits but only two runs as he struckout two batters and walked one.  Jonathan Albaladejo, Kyle Farnsworth, Joba Chamberlain, and Mariano Rivera pitched the final four innings of the game and held the Indians scoreless.  Rivera picked up the save which was his eighth of the season.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 521st career home run and Robinson Cano later hit the game winning home run for the New York Yankees as they went onto beat the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 8-7.  A-Rod’s home run tied him on the all time list with Ted Williams and Willie McCovey.

Besides Rodriguez’s and Cano’s home runs, Johnny Damon and Morgan Ensberg also went deep.  Damon led the Yankees with three RBI’s, Derek Jeter had two RBI, while Rodriguez, Cano, and Ensberg all finished with one RBI.

Brian Bruney pitched in relief and picked up the win while Mariano Rivera picked up the save which was his fourth of the season.  Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy did pitch six innings giving up eight hits and three earned runs.  Kennedy had a pretty good performance, a lot better then his previous game.

The New York Yankees have signed infielder Morgan Ensberg to a one year contract.  Ensberg will probably fill in a first and third base and pitch hit a little bit.  I wouldn’t expect to him to have much value to the Yankees unless Alex Rodriguez or Jason Giambi get hurt.

Ensberg had a pretty bad 2007 season, and was actually non-tendered by the San Diego Padres.  So maybe changing uniforms and playing for a great team like the Yankees will get him going back in the right direction.
